Man found not guilty after killing police officer who raided home with knockless warrant

Snippit:

LONGUEUIL, Que. -- A jury has found Basil Parasiris not guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Laval police Const. Daniel Tessier.

Parasiris appeared relieved after the verdict was read out. His wife, Penny Gounis, gasped, "Oh my God!" and his sister began to weep.

The jury made the decision in its fourth day of deliberation.

Shortly after 5 a.m. on March 2, 2007, Tessier was the second of nine Laval police officers who stormed into Parasiris's home after they smashed in the front door with a small battering ram.

The raid was part of an investigation of five drug traffickers who were selling cocaine in Laval.

Parasiris admitted during an interrogation that he was involved in drug trafficking for three years to get out of financial trouble. The jury also never heard this evidence.
Quote:

The six men and six women also never heard that the police found less than a gram of cocaine, nearly two grams of marijuana, 13 cellular phones and four pagers inside the home.
Quote:

Perhaps the best evidence to support Parasiris's claim that he feared he and his family were under attack was that he admitted he soiled his underwear during the raid.
Looks like a case of a small-time druggie against eager-beaver, barn-burnin' prosecution -- so the outcome would seem proper.

Absoluety..... as soon as I heard "not Guilty"....... the first call would be to a Uhaul truck rental center.

The ink on the verdict paper would not be dry yet before my @$$ was packed up.

By nightfall I would be a MINIMUM of 2 states away.

OK, perhaps you should READ the story before commenting on it.

At times when the jury wasn't sitting, Cournoyer insisted he wanted the trial to be about what happened inside Parasiris's home when Tessier was killed and not what he referred to as "fireworks." Because of this, the jury was never told about the warrant or why the Laval police were there in the first place. The six men and six women also never heard that the police found less than a gram of cocaine, nearly two grams of marijuana, 13 cellular phones and four pagers inside the home.

Police also found eight pages of what one investigator described as possibly being the accounts of drug trafficking and Parasiris admitted during an interrogation that he was involved in drug trafficking for three years to get out of financial trouble. The jury also never heard this evidence.

This guy WAS a drug dealer - he admits it. Was he the distributor for the whole area, as claimed by the cops? That's a little harder to say, as they literally didn't actually find any proof of large quantities of illegal drugs.

Any home in Canada could easily have a gram of coke and two grams of pot. I'm MORE surprised that they owned weapons and ACTUALLY knew how to use them properly. That the defendeant ONLY killed one intruder (officer) and wounded another IS the big surprise or mystery. It could have easily been all nine officers killed, had these guys been 'suspicious' of a raid.

One guy died. Another guy was wounded. Both the 'perp' and his wife were injured by other officers on the scene responding to their gun fire.

This is basically a typical 'drug raid' gone bad because the cops didn't or couldn't PROVE what was on their warrant. Which is WHY the jury pitched the charges against this guy.

Which is why all the jujors better be moving with the aquitted guy........ You can be certain that juror list is gonna be slipped to the blue boys for "special treatment"

They did the right thing based on the facts.......but dam this is gonna cost them. The goons dont like to be on the wrong side of the play.

Hell I am even shocked an amazed the judge didnt overide the verdict.

Wow, a jury of Qubcois knows freedom better than its neighbor to the south. I remember reading about a case that took place, I believe, in Alabama. In the dead of night, a man was raided by police who failed to announce themselves or their warrant. The homeowner shot and killed one officer and was charged with first degree murder facing the death penalty. I am not sure what became of that story but according to the American Conservative, it was not looking good.

TA is right, this guy needs to get the hell out of there. The jurors might also want to consider relocating.

All I can say is its a good thing they got a no knock warrant before he flushed those 13 phones down the toilet!

One thing - If you are wearing a ski mask, you are a crook until I see badges and a warrant. Shouting police is not identification.
